Land with mysterious groundwater in Yatsushiro - owning it alone was a joy.
An old house once stood here, but it was demolished 8 years ago and the site is now a vacant lot. The former owner of this land is said to have been a great businessman and millionaire of the Taisho to early Showa period, said to have been either a retainer family of the Yatsushiro lord or a local entrepreneur, who ranked among the very top one or two businessmen in Yatsushiro City. The house that was demolished seems to have been a soy sauce and miso storehouse for this millionaire's servants. The millionaire later went bankrupt because of a blunder by a family member, and the title passed to a person of the bloodline.
The land was originally leasehold. In the past the owner enjoyed persimmons, goumi, loquats and plums here. It is a place full of memories from early childhood, through school years, to adulthood and starting work. Above all, the land produces wonderful groundwater, and the owner could not bear to let it go, so the owner personally acquired it and has been managing it. Until now the household lived on groundwater alone. In early summer, one day the well water suddenly switches to extremely cold water, and in early autumn it suddenly switches to lukewarm water - a truly mysterious well.
Nearby (including right next door) there are fields of banpeiyu (a type of pomelo, a citrus fruit), and around May the scent of banpeiyu blossoms fills the air. The fragrance of citrus blossoms is better than any perfume. The owner currently lives in Fukuoka and visits every 2 months to spray herbicide. A short distance from this land is the Kuma River, one of Japan's three great rapid rivers. Every October a national fireworks masters' competition is held beside the river, and if you climb the embankment (a 1-minute walk from the house) the fireworks can be seen directly overhead. 古い家がありましたが、8年前に解体し現在は何もない更地です。この土地の昔の地主様は大正時代から昭和初期頃、八代のお殿様在家かこの実業家様かと言われたお方で、八代市で1番2番を争うような、とてつもない大実業家で大富豪様でした。解体した家はこの大富豪の使用人の方々の為の、醤油や味噌蔵だったようです。その大富豪様は後には身内の失態により破産をされたようで、血筋のある方の名義に変わりました。
元々は借地でしたが、昔は、柿、グミ、琵琶、梅で楽しみ、幼少期～通園通学、成人し就職をした思い入れの多い土地で、また、何といっても素晴らしい地下水が出る土地ですので、まるで離してしまうには忍びなく、私個人が手に入れて管理をしている現在です。今までは地下水のみでの生活でした。初夏になると、ある日突然、とにかく冷たい水に切り替わり、初秋になると、またいきなりぬるま湯みたいな水に切り替わる、何とも不思議な井戸水なんです。
近隣（真横にもあります）には柑橘類の一種の晩白柚（ザボンの一種）畑もあり、5月前後は、晩白柚の花の香りが漂います。柑橘類の花の香りは香水以上、素晴らしい香りです。現在は福岡在住で、2か月に1度除草剤振りに行っています。この土地から少し行きますと日本三大急流の一つの球磨川があり、毎年10月、その川の脇で全国花火師大会がありますが、我が家から歩いて1分の塘に上がりますと、真上に花火が見えます。お隣のお宅の2階からは、きれいに見えるそうです。
辺りには3階建てはなく、この土地で新築の場合、真横の道より要約1Mのセットバックにより少し狭くなりますが、花火が見える真横の家が2階建てですので、1階を駐車場にして3階建てにされますと、特にまた360度のパノラマになるようですし、3階のお部屋からは花火を独り占めできるかもしれませんね。何なら、屋上があれば、お友達とバーベキューしながら、花火が楽しめるかもしれません。今回売却を決めましたのは、上京の予定が入り今後の管理が厳しくなる為です。なんの予定も無くただ所持しているだけの土地でしたが、十分楽しめましたので、大事にご使用頂ける方にご縁があればと願っています。
