The station is about a 5-minute walk away. Some residents commute to Kyoto. Access to Mt. Ibuki is also good, about 15 minutes by bus or private car. The nearby Amano River is an area designated as a National Special Natural Monument as "Nagaoka's Genji fireflies and their breeding ground." The fantastic dance of lights in the dark is a must-see. Eleven firefly habitats in Japan have been designated natural monuments, but Nagaoka is the only area designated as a "Special Natural Monument," a category for natural monuments of particularly high value on both a world and national level. The "Amanogawa Firefly Festival" is held every year from early to mid June.

駅から徒歩約5分です。京都へ通勤されている方も見られます。伊吹山へのアクセスも良く、バスや自家用車で約15分程です。近くの天野川は「長岡のゲンジボタル及びその発生地」として国の特別天然記念物に指定された地域です。暗闇に舞う幻想的な光の乱舞は必見です。ホタル発生地として全国で天然記念物指定を受けているところは11カ所ありますが、「天然記念物のうち世界的にまた国家的に価値が特に高いもの」として指定される「特別天然記念物」指定の地域は長岡のみとなっています。毎年6月初旬から中旬にかけて「天の川ほたるまつり」が開催されています。
