This property was acquired through inheritance. When the owner's children were small, the family came back every summer holiday to enjoy swimming and fishing. The children are now adults, and the owner lives in another prefecture with no plans to live here, so they wish to sell.
The house is old, but it was built as the owner's grandfather's own home. He was a master temple carpenter (miya-daiku) and used traditional timber-joinery construction (kigumi). Perhaps thanks to the large beams, almost no distortion of the house can be felt even today. The roof tiles have been replaced and there are no roof leaks. 日当たりもよいので野菜・花つくりを楽しめる庭にしても良いかと思います。瀬戸内海に突き出た半島の先にある小さな町で、温暖な気候で住み良いです。朝ドラ「鳩子の海」の舞台になったり、松山善三監督の映画の舞台にもなった、風光明媚な町で、目の前は海、背後には500ｍ高の山があり、町役場も移住を推進して助成金などもあります。 家は瀬戸内特有の路地の中にあります。近隣は車も入れない道路が多く、駐車場付きの家は少ないですが、この建物周辺の道は細いものの車で家の前まで行くこともでき、車2台分の駐車場スペースがあります。
海釣りが趣味ならば、歩いて2～3分で岸壁から釣りが楽しめる場所が何箇所もあります。海水浴のビーチは少し歩かねばなりません。離島への船着場やＪＲ柳井駅行きバス停のある「上関海峡道の駅」へは歩いて2分です。天然温泉「鳩子の湯」まで歩いて5分、シニア住民は300円で入浴できます。「道の駅」では魚や海産物・地場野菜なども販売しています。
